On any given day, of any given year, in Baltimore, Maryland a 7 pound newborn baby can bring the most educated, successful adults to their knees. According to new parents, Angie and Darren Duvall, “This parenting thing is not for the weak. Babies are complicated and we are unequipped.” Their precious boy, Aiden James, did not come with a rule book and after 3 days of on and off screaming that brought little sleep and great frustration to the Duvalls, they reached out to the experts at Doulas of Baltimore.
“The doula brought something no one else was selling, a sense of peace and the belief that she could teach us how to understand our baby,” said Darren. “As a father and husband, seeing my wife struggle is really hard for me, but our doula helped us get through that”.
Postpartum doulas focus on the mothers recovery from giving birth and all things relating to the baby’s adjustment to life outside of the womb. Breastfeeding is a huge focus for both the mother and baby and requires a tremendous amount of emotional and informational support while it is happening.
