Meet the Owners

Together, industry leaders Emily Pelton and Deborah Bailey have cultivated a talented group of professional doulas who work with growing families across the metro Baltimore area. During the past twenty years, Doulas of Baltimore’s leadership has developed deep relationships with our area’s top local medical providers and other birth and parenthood professionals that enable us to serve Baltimore’s growing families with unparalleled comprehensive support.

Emily Pelton, Founder

Founder and Managing Director Emily Pelton continues her legacy through mentoring the next generation of doulas as well as cultivating and maintaining professional relationships within the Baltimore birth and small business communities. She has supported growing Baltimore families for nearly two decades through hospital and private childbirth education and as an in-demand solo doula, eventually transitioning into a partnership, then leading an agency of doulas. In addition to operating her own business since 2002, Emily is also responsible for having trained hundreds of new birth and postpartum doulas from 2014 to 2017, both across the country and internationally. Emily’s calm, confident presence combined with her vast experience make her Baltimore’s leading expert in pregnancy, birth, and parenting.

Deborah Bailey, Co-Owner

Deborah ‘Debbie’ Bailey, co-owner and Operations Director, brings a wealth of experience and expertise in supporting the whole family as they welcome a new baby. Trained as a birth and postpartum doula in 2015 (under the tutelage of Emily Pelton!), Debbie quickly immersed herself into her career as a professional doula. She eventually added certifications as a Placenta Encapsulation Specialist, Certified Passenger Safety Technician (Car Seat Tech), Infant Feeding Specialist and Newborn Care Specialist. Her outgoing and approachable nature as well as her ability to identify, prioritize, and address the needs of others, makes her a welcome presence in clients’ homes.

Safety Checked

Every one of our doulas pass a background check to ensure they’re safe to work with children. Each of our doulas also carries current CPR certification and professional liability insurance.

Comprehensive Training

We choose to work with experienced doulas with specialized training to serve the families we work with. Our doulas also enjoy contiuing education to learn new skills and keep existing skills sharp.

From our leadership team to your doula and backup doulas if necessary, you have access to an entire team of experienced doulas, not just one!
