“Highly recommend if you’re a hands-on learner”
My husband and I really loved the small group training experiences we received at Doulas of Baltimore. We enrolled in and started taking the sessions at around 24 weeks but there were other couples that were much farther along than we were. We took 5 classes (4 in a series about newborn basics and 1 single class on birthing) and they were all extremely informative. The small group environment along with the supportive instructors of the sessions made the room a safe space to learn and ask questions. We also really enjoyed the other couples we learned with, and keep in touch with them. Since them, we have also enlisted the help of a nighttime doula from DOB and are looking forward to the help! Highly recommend if you’re a hands-on learner and struggle to pay attention to webinars or books about baby care!

More than anything, her genuine care for our daughter and her ability to listen and empathize with us was comforting. She was always there to answer our questions, and her presence helped us feel more confident as parents.

Absolutely loved our start to finish experience with Doulas of Baltimore! We enjoyed the Childbirth and Baby 101 courses – they gave us valuable resources to draw from during our birth experience and gave us a ton of context during prenatal appointments, doctor’s visits, and our hospital stay (not to mention our baby’s first months of life!). The small group setting made it a great place to get one-on-one help, questions answered, and to focus on baby!
Our doula Peggy is a fantastic human and doula! Our birth plan went sideways due to some medical complications, and she was responsive, supportive, and compassionate as the process went from 0 to 60 very quickly. We felt prepared for the unexpected through the classes, but Peggy was a reassuring presence and friend before, during, and after the birth of our daughter.
We will recommend her and DOB until the end of time!

Our doula has been exceptional with our first newborn. I was suffering from terrible postpartum anxiety when I first met her and was not sleeping or taking care of myself. She immediately identified ways to help my baby sleep better at night, so that we all could start to feel better. We incorporated her suggestions, and my baby now sleeps 10-12 hours a night. She has been a lifesaver for us. She is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Her ability to connect with my baby was immediate. She’s a breathe of fresh air and will help with whatever is needed around the house, and gave me a well needed break. She has been hands on in practicing crib naps with my baby, helps with dishes and laundry, and is a general delight to have in our home.

She made us feel so comfortable from the very beginning. We immediately felt like our little one was in amazing hands so we could get some much needed rest. In addition to peace of mind, she gave both my husband and I a big sense of “we’ve got this” which was so needed when we came home from the hospital after an unexpected emergency c section delivery. Neither my husband nor I have family nearby so having someone to help us was crucial. I truly feel like she is a “baby whisperer.” When our little one was gassy and colicky, Taneka was helpful and patient with soothing her just like I would. She was such a fantastic coach for me as a new mom, offering support and checking in on my mental health which was so incredibly lovely.

Shana was an absolute godsend! I cannot recommend her enough. I never would have made it through my unmedicated childbirth without her. Her calm presence, effective coaching, and responsive to my needs was invaluable. Moreover, her ability to work seamlessly with my husband and the hospital medical staff was critical to my birthing process and impressive to watch. She is worth EVERY PENNY!
“I made the right choice”
Admittedly, I thought it would be really awkward to bare my soul and body to a total stranger. But from the moment I met our doula, I knew I made the right choice: she was patient, understanding, kind, funny, but above all else, passionate and fiercely determined (even when I wasn’t): she made me believe I could give birth to another baby without the fear. I’ll never (willingly) have another baby without a doula again!
“Saved us from a lot of Googling!”
My husband and I took the child-birthing series and the newborn class with DOB. We felt like we knew everything the doctors told us when I was getting induced and while in labor. Because of our knowledge and confidence we gained with DOB, doctors and nurses kept telling us they were surprised this was our first child. We highly recommend the newborn class. It saved us from a lot of Googling (which will lead to a ton of contradicting ideas and misinformation)!

She was a truly integral part in why I was able to have an unmedicated tub birth – I would not have been able to make it through my contractions without her coaching and hands on support. She kept me focused and in the moment while also making sure I was moving around enough and progressing. I feel so lucky to have had what I can honestly say was my dream birth experience and so much of that is because of Melissa’s support.

The Childbirth Series class was fantastic! The content was relevant and I feel much more informed about the stages of childbirth and post partum. Good mix of classroom style content in a laid back style that left plenty of room for questions and an interactive approach. I would recommend highly!

I feel like every woman, no matter her situation, should have a postpartum doula. I was instantly comfortable with our doula in my home and with my baby. She was like a maternal Mary Poppins, helping me with all the work of new motherhood and teaching me along the way. I got so much comfort just from knowing she was coming. I recently attend the Birth Basics class from Doulas of Baltimore. It was definitely worth the investment and helped us feel much more prepared for our labor and delivery. The information about the birth process and comfort measure techniques especially was extremely helpful. This is a great class for expecting parents who like to know all of the options ahead of time in order to make betters decisions for their family in the moment.
